Remote Administrator Rogue Detection Sensor upgrade

After using the Remote Administrator Client Upgrade task in Client Tasks, the last step is to upgrade the Remote Detection Sensor on the appliance.

  1. Download the new version from:
  2. Transfer the file to the /root/eset_installers directory of the ERA appliance via FTP.
  3. Set the file permissions of the uploaded installer file to 755.
  4. Update the symbolic link to point to the newly uploaded file by running the following command:
    1. ln -sfn root/eset_installers/
  5. The above command must be run by first changing to the eset_installers directory (cd /root/eset_installers).
  6. Once the symbolic link is updated, backup a directory (cd ..) and run the installer to upgrade the Rogue Detection Sensor installation using the following command:
    1. sudo ./ --skip-license

Manage voicemail on Avaya Application Server

So after a couple of months of recording calls the application server is getting full.  To delete the oldest calls I can’t use the 1XP or using an FTP client so I have to use Putty and some scripting.

Open Putty and connect to the Application Server via SSH.

After logging on using the username Administrator, type admin <enter>.

Enter the same password as above and <enter>.

Type root and enter the password (which was created when the Application Server was setup).

Now enter the following command to the oldest delete files on the relevant directory:

find /opt/vmpro/Accounts/Reception -mtime +60 -exec rm -f {} \;

The above will remove all files modified over 60 days ago in the Reception directory.

Install .Net 2.0 on Windows 8.1

A great way to enable the .net 2.0 framework within Windows 8.1 without downloading the files from Windows Update but instead installing from local media (hard drive/DVD).

DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:installationMediaDrive:\sources\sxs

  • /Online targets the operating system you’re running (instead of an offline Windows image).
  • /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 specifies that you want to enable the .NET Framework 3.5.
  • /All enables all parent features of the .NET Framework 3.5.
  • /LimitAccess prevents DISM from contacting Windows Update (this mean you do not need Internet access).
  • /Source specifies the location of the files needed to restore the feature (for example, the D:\sources\sxs directory).

BBC Radio 5 commentary on Bose SoundTouch

Our kitchen radio gave up just before Christmas so we decided to treat ourselves and splash out on a Bose SoundTouch 20 wireless speaker which includes Internet radio.  We preferred the Bose over the Sonos offering because the Bose has six preset buttons on the unit so you don’t have to use the app to change stations.

Don’t get me wrong this is a great unit with fantastic sound quality but there is one major downside for sports fans who listen to match commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live and Sports Extra.  During most live commentary you receive a recorded message stating that due to licensing restrictions the programme cannot be broadcast which is highly disappointing.

Upon contacting Bose support we were told that this was due to their internet radio provider (vTuner) and “a licensing issue”.  I replied to Bose but have had nothing in reply.

I haven’t looked into the licensing further to know whether the BBC, vTuner or Bose are causing the issue but it does put a black mark against internet radio over DAB for listening to live sporting events in the UK and wish I’d known about this before spending £350 on a new sound system.
